| How do I use the Runes? |
| Most
rune powers are automatic. When your player touches, or "picks up" a rune,
the powers of that rune are immediately given to you. There are exceptions
to this rule; some runes will modify your weapons with enhanced powers.
The runes that let you fly or turn into a monster give you these powers
automatically. A good portion of the runes that give you an extra weapon
will use the Axe to trigger this weapon. Others, such as the Construction
Worker actually modify your existing weapons. If your ever totally stuck,
don't worry, SCTF has an on-line help system. Just pick-up a rune and type
impulse 130 for rune help.
For more information on runes, visit the SCTF Runes section of this web site. |
| What is the impulse for the Grapple Hook? |
| Impulse
22 -or-
Impulse 39 To bind a key, bring down
your Quake Console window, and type: bind <key> "impulse 22"
For more information on impulse commands, visit the Impulse Commands section of this web site. |
| How can I run my own server? |
| In
the SCTF Files section, you should find enough software to run your own
server. Currently we only have an installation utility for Windows 95/98/NT
systems. The installation file needs a version of Quake that has clean
maps. In other words, your maps cannot be altered in any way. If you're
unsure of their status, reinstall Quake. If your maps are changed, or the
Water Vis patch is applied, this will cause errors with the BSP utility
and the maps will not be created properly.
The Setup Utility performs these steps for you: Step 1) Unpack your Quake
pak files
Your server is now ready to run, all you need to do is click the dedicated.bat file to start it. For SCTF related files, visit
the Files Section of this web site.
|
| How can I upgrade my server? |
| Server
upgrades are a simple matter of switching your progs.dat file with a new
version. You do not need to rebuild maps, or any other files. For administrators
who plan to upgrade frequently, it is suggested that you unpak your pak0.pak
file and remove the progs.dat from this file. Then simply keep the new
progs.dat file in the sctf directory.
For file updates, visit the Files Section of this web site. |
| What is the impulse to toss a rune? |

| Where can I get the water Vis program? |
| If
you are above water on a servers that does not have their maps patched
you will not receive the player data as they swim below the surface. It
is assumed you can't see them. Only a patched server will show you a player
through the liquid surface. The Water Vis program on this web site only
works with GL Quake. There is a Water Hack web site just for the non-GL
Quake versions of Quake. It will remove all surfaces of your liquids, allowing
you to see into them. But if you must, last time I looked, the web site
was still up at: http://www.primenet.com/~splat/waterhack.html

| Is SCTF just for California ISP's?! |
| No!
In fact, there are three servers outside California at time of this writing.
One in the UK, Switzerland, Chechya, and Arizona. I would love to have
some servers in Canada or Eastern North America.
If you would like to setup a server, you are welcome to use our installation utility located in the SCTF Files section of this web site. I strongly recomend you install this on a clean version of Quake. For SCTF related files, visit the Files Section of this web site. |
| I have some good ideas, where should I submit them? |
| Send all suggestions to neophyte@sctf.net |
| Are there secret exits on the Start Map to Threewave CTF Levels? |
| Yes
there are. These are enabled in current versions, and require the client
to have the Threewave maps.
For SCTF related files, visit the Files Section of this web site. |
| Where can I get the Threewave CTF Levels? |
| Threewave
Maps can be found in the SCTF Files section, among other numerous places.
They are not required to play SCTF in its default setting. You may also play SCTF using the Threewave Sounds and Player Skins. To enable this, add 512 to your servers teamplay value in autoexec.cfg For SCTF related files, visit the Files Section of this web site. |
